Germs, germs everywhere is a website designed by some primary school children that has lots of information about germs.  They also have a page stating which sources they used to find their information.  Could be worth a look.

Climate change

Aerogel

Ms Seaman’s class are researching Aerogel.  This is a relatively new product so we don’t have much information in our books.  Here are some websites that may help your research

Aerogel – this Wikipedia entry has a lot of information.  It s quite hard to read the whole article.  The section on ‘uses’ will give you lots of ideas for what Aerogel is used for.

What is an aerogel? – this webpage from Aspen Aerogels (a company that makes products using Aerogel) will help you find out more about aerogels.  Click on ‘Products’ at the top of the page to find out what aerogels are used for.

Scientists hail ‘frozen smoke’ as material that will change the world – the article from the Times newspaper in 2007 is obviously excited about aerogels.  Do you think aerogel’s will change the world?  Why?

Sports’ Governing Bodies – use this Sport England webpage to find out more about the different sports and their requirements.

Olympic Sports – use this webpage from the British Olympic Association to investigate Olympic Sports.  Click on a sport to find information on the history, rules and technical requirements.

There is lots of information on the official London 2012 website.  Use this link, and scroll to the bottom of the page to find information about the different venues that will be used for the London 2012 Olympics.  You can also see videos showing the preparations for building the main Olympic Park and see the plans for how it is all going to be built.

Not sure how to create your models?  Check out these websites for some ideas on creating 3D shapes.

Nets (3D models) from SEN teacher.  Don’t let the web address put you off.  This website has printable nets for making cubes, cones, pyramids, tetrahedons and many more. 

Solid shapes and their nets  has nets of various 3D shapes.

The Energy Saving House from the Energy Saving Trust has lots of ideas to increase your energy and will tell you how much money you can save.   You can also find information on insulation from the Energy Saving Trust.

Global futures – recycling

You can find books on recycling, waste, climate change and much more in the library. 

For recycling, look for books with a Dewey number of 338.  You can find the Dewey number on the spine of each book. 

If you want some information on climate change and global warming look for books with a Dewey number of 551.52.

Books on energy and energy conservation will have a Dewey number of 333.79.
